Where
The Balearic islands are Mallorca, Menorca and Cabrera in the North, and Ibiza y Formentera in the South-West. They are located in the Mediterranean Sea off the eastcoast of mainland Spain.
When
The islands boast 300 days of sunshine a year. The summer months can be extremely busy (and more expensive) as this is the peak season. The Tramuntana mountain chain, which crosses the island of Mallorca from south-west to north-east, protects the central plains (which cover a large percentage of the island). The temperatures start to climb as early as April and the weather in Majorca is very good until October. In summer, the climate in Mallorca is hot and dry (average of 25 degrees). In winter the temperatures remain relatively pleasant (average of 12 to 13 degrees). Rain occurs mainly in Spring and Autumn.
Why
Each of the islands has a unique character and each has much to offer. There are beautiful beaches, great sailing areas, interesting resorts, fascinating culture (particularly in Palma), sports tourism and great food.
